Are car servicing plans worth the money?

Whether or not a car service plan ends up being worth the money depends on a number of factors. These include the maintenance habits of the owner/ operator, the type of vehicle in question and how often the car should be serviced. We recommend considering the following points before making a decision to invest in a plan:

Cost savings – if you service your vehicle frequently a service plan might save you money but check if the place covers routine maintenance like oil changes, tyre rotations and inspections

Convenience – Service plans can offer convenience by ensuring routine maintenance is scheduled ahead of time

Piece of mind – Keeping your car properly maintained can provided added piece of mind that faults are less likely to occur.

Coverage limits – Be sure to read the full agreement. Some plans have exclusions or limits that affect their value.

Your car’s value – It stands to reason that there’s no point investing in a service plan if you won’t get any benefit from it because the value of your vehicle negates the need for the vehicle to be serviced by an expensive agent. If the servicing can be completed for less than the cost of the plan its difficult to realise value for money.

When presented with this type of product we always recommend considering cost to benefit
